We are saddened by the recent passing of Doug Allan OBE, beloved former speaker of the RGS-HK, and a much-admired member of our community. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in exploration and wildlife filmmaking.

Doug Allan is renowned for his remarkable work with Sir David Attenborough on landmark BBC series including Planet Earth, Blue Planet and Frozen Planet. His career took him from the most remote corners of the planet to the frontlines of natural history filmmaking, capturing moments few others have ever witnessed.

From the frozen wilderness of Antarctica and emperor penguin colonies, to powerful encounters with polar bears in the Arctic, and the quiet majesty of whales beneath the ocean’s surface. Each image carries Doug’s signature sense of patience, precision and deep respect for the natural world.
