Step back in time and explore a pivotal site from the Battle of Hong Kong (December 1941). The Shing Mun Redoubt was a key British defensive position along the Gin Drinkers Line, designed to protect the Kowloon Peninsula from advancing Japanese forces. Although the line was eventually breached, the Redoubt remains a striking example of wartime fortifications, with tunnels, pillboxes, and observation posts that tell a story of courage, strategy, and sacrifice.
This exclusive prize offers a guided battlefield walk curated by Philip Cracknell, author of Battle for Hong Kong December 1941 (2019) and The Occupation of Hong Kong 1941–45 (2022). From Pineapple Dam at Shing Mun Reservoir, participants will trek through rugged terrain, explore tunnels and pillboxes, and hear in exceptional detail about the battle and its consequences for the defence of the Mainland.
