Your expedition starts at the legendary Muthaiga Club in Nairobi, where Out of Africa was filmed. Perhaps visit Nairobi National Park or one of Narobi’s other exciting options.

After a day of colonial luxury, you fly north to the remote deserts of northern Kenya, to the Jade Sea or Lake Turkana, the world’s largest desert lake and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Staying at an institute, you’ll explore by 4x4 the unique landscapes of this region. Here the exposed rock beds of the desert have revealed the world’s largest collection of human ancestors from over millions of years. From axes and arrows to hominid fossils, you’ll see 3 million years of history, through visits to digs and collections in store. You’ll even see the fossils of extinct creatures, including elephants nearly twice the size of the present species.

Round off your expedition with a relaxing stay at a lodge on the lake shore lapped by the lake’s famous turquoise water. From here, you may take a boat trip to the largest island in the lake, which is the only water in the world with both Mediterranean and Indian Ocean marine species, showing its unique ecosystem.
