About This Lot

On 16 January 1945, Hong Kong experienced its heaviest air raid in history — Operation Gratitude — as wave after wave of American aircraft attacked and were, in turn, targeted by Japanese guns posted across the territory. Four American warplanes are known to have crashed in Hong Kong that day.

Eight years ago, a chunk of metal was discovered high above the Tai Tam reservoir; it was sturdy, filled with bolts and rivets. It was this piece of metal that led to one of the American airplanes being discovered for the first time.

What's Included

  • Lunch on the Stanley waterfront with an expert guide
  • Private archaeological tour for up to 6 people
  • Access to the currently secretive and restricted dig area
  • First-hand witness of the excavation to recover the airplane
